The local news came and interviewed Patty, the head of the costume shop, and Yancey Quick, the wig and make-up designer. And if you watch to the very end, it's my wig that they fade out on!

It's the Day of the Show, Y'all!!
Tonight is opening night! Best wishes to all the cast, orchestra, crew, production team, and everyone else who has brought this show to the stage! I understand that we will have a full house. (Which isn't technically a sell-out, I think it means something like 90 percent or more sold. But that is amazing!)
I'm spending the day chilling out, watching TV, writing out cards for people for tonight, getting some treats to give to the crew. I guess I should sing a little, too, heh heh. Went for a little run on the treadmill, gonna do some yoga stretches to be loose for tonight.
I will add more to this post tonight (or tomorrow morning) after the show, and hopefully with some great pictures from tonight and from the cast party. Toi toi toi, everyone!
Added Sunday afternoon :
The show went great, totally great! It ran totally smoothly and everyone sounded fantastic! We had an almost full house, and they gave us a standing ovation. So now the show is running and we are good! In a few days the reviews should come out, and hopefully that will bring us some good press.
I got a few photos, but not as many as I had hoped. First a few of the progression of my make-up. I put up one pre-make-up because you get so used to looking at yourself all made up that you start to think you look ugly without it. But I think I look pretty good without it, too, so there!
Yancey loves to photobomb me and I always am clueless until I snap the photo.
I thought the eyebrows looked really great
I got flowers from my mom and from Noodle. They are always so good to me. Noodle's were a little delayed and I thought, hey, wait, there should be another bouquet here. But it arrived and it is beautiful. The purple one is from Mom - matches my dress!
On opening night, people often give gifts to fellow cast members, here is my haul

I got a photo of The Queen in her Act Two costume, not acting very queenly. She sounded wonderful last night. I love The Second Lady in the background, going, wait, what, am I in a photo?

The milliner who works for the costume shop wore Bollywood garb in honor of us, and she looked terrific
After the show, there was a lovely cast party at Cafe Molise, and the food was pretty good. And I was starving. I headed straight for the buffet table and then parked at a table and chowed down.
Even though I don't have a photo of The Three Ladies in costume, I got a photo of us dressed up for the party. Aren't we a bunch of hotties??
Oh, and this is sort of hard to see, but here is one of the skull earrings The First Lady gave me. I love them!

Final Dress Rehearsal!
Wow, it seems like these three weeks went really fast, I can't believe we did the final dress rehearsal just now! It went so well. One tiny glitch with a prop hand-off, but that will never happen again. Our maestro was really, really happy with how The Three Ladies did, he made a point to come and tell us. That made us all feel like a million bucks. But I think we also knew, we hit all our points and were locked into the music, too.
Utah Opera does a very cool thing that I have always loved. For the final dress rehearsal, they invite a student audience. So we had a crowd, maybe two-thirds full, of high school and junior high kids. They are the greatest audience! Their reactions are so real and honest. They don't hold back, if they think something is funny, they laugh right out. If they like someone or something, they applaud. They are not worried about behaving like an "opera audience," and I wish there were more of that in the world. And of course, they give huge ovations at the end, and tonight they especially were loving Papageno. As well they should, he's great and he's hilarious.

Tonight is the Final Dress Rehearsal
Didn't really do a full blog post yesterday. It was the first time with orchestra, in costume and make-up, with all the staging. I really think it went pretty well. There are many parts of the show that I have nothing to do with, so I don't know how it all went. The Three Ladies had a good night, I think.
This morning, I had an awesome coaching on my own repertoire with the principal coach of Utah Opera. Here's something you might not know - even when you are doing a show, there are usually other gigs to be preparing for. So once you have your current show on its feet, it is wise to use your days to work on that other music. The great thing about this is - if you're working with a company on a full show, you are going to have at least a few people who are great candidates to ask for a coaching - conductor, music director, pianists, coaches. So if you are a young singer reading this - take advantage of those resources! Don't be timid about asking them to coach you. The worst that could happen is they will say no, but they will most likely be happy to do it. Anyway, today we worked on Brahms that I sing with Noodle, and it was so so so great.
Now time for photos! In theaters, they often use the walls near the dressing rooms to commemorate shows that have come through. They get someone to paint the logo for the show on the wall, and the members of the cast sign. I found the one from the 2006 Magic Flute, but I can't find my signature!

After rehearsal, I was craving an actual meal, not just snacks, so I embraced the glamorous life and ordered room service. It was more than I needed, but it hit the spot.
