Ah-ha! So THAT'S how you work this set!

Today I went into the theater about 30 minutes early, with the sole intention of walking around on the set. And that's exactly what I did, just walked around, took my time, walked fast and slow, up and down. It was amazing how much more comfortable I was after doing that. The key for me was to walk confidently, not tiptoe around, worrying that I would fall. Just walk. I also caught up with many of the stage crew, whom I had met in previous Utah productions. That was nice, and it's good to get friendly with the crew because they will save your life sometimes.

I realized yesterday how much I love singing in the Capitol Theater. It's SO easy to sing in there, you don't have to push at all and you feel like you are being heard all the way to the back of the house. (Of course, this set must act as a giant sound board, so that doesn't suck.) It was great to be reminded of that because I feel like in the past couple of years, I have sung in a lot of places that don't give you an feedback and you feel like you're shouting all the time. So, yay for the Cap!

Today's rehearsal went far better overall, I'm pretty sure everyone felt that way. I know I felt better about just about everything. Oh, and the Three Spirits were there tonight, and they are so cute. They are three boys from The Madeleine Choir School here in SLC. They seem like they are at the age where they are still young and cute, and haven't gotten too cool for school yet.

I got a few rehearsal shots, slightly blurry. This first is the pyramid, where I believe Pamina sings "Ach, ich fühl's" after she thinks Tamino is rejecting her.
Here are Tamino and Papageno in front of the pyramid, still talking through their cans and string phone
And here's a shot I took while I was on stage, with Pamina and Monostatos
Walking around town today, I saw two things worth mentioning. First, Lamb's Grill, which is a restaurant downtown, famous old family-owned place. They used to have a neon sign in the window that said "lamb's good food," but it's not there anymore! So sad!

But the best news of all from today is that I found Jack Spratt's bread! It's a sprouted wheat bread that I've only ever seen in Salt Lake City. Last time I shopped for bread, I didn't see it, but today I did! Yay!
