Short Rehearsal

Today we just had a very brief rehearsal, practicing the end of the opera, when a tsunami comes in and washes away The Three Ladies, The Queen of the Night, and Monostatos as they try to invade and vanquish the temple of Sarastro.

But first I started the day with a 5 mile run and a brunch at Eva, with the most amazing coffee I have ever had. Well, maybe not ever, but after a week of drinking hotel coffee, the Eva coffee positively rocked my world. I had an egg white frittata with chicken sausage, gruyere, and pesto - yum

Then I went to the studio to practice recital rep, and in rehearsal, we got to see the dragon in action. Sorry for the blurry photos, but that thing was flailing all over the stage!

Then we got a look at the tsunami that washes us away. It's a huge piece of blue silk, and four people, one at each corner, run it down to the front of the stage, and then we run under it. Then, what will look so cool, after the whole drape is spread over the stage, someone in the well pulls it all down, so it should look like its getting sucked down a drain. I bet that will be super sweet from the audience.

  1. the Dragon looks like the Chinese Dragons we use for tai chi celebration stuff.

  2. it's funny you say that because the three ladies have a series of movements at the beginning, a little bit hindu pose, a little bit bollywood. and some of it is some slow sustained shifts between poses and we thought it felt like tai chi!
